Steve has been working in photography since the early 70's using traditional darkroom techniques. He began working in product photography in the late 1980's, first in an effort to get better photographs of his own work, and now also specializes in fine art photography. He has moved to digital photography in the past five years, both in 35 mm and medium format, and brings this up-to-date expertise and experience to our studio.
You can see some of Steve's photographic galleries on the Shadows and Light site.

Digital Photography
Why digital photography? There are many benefits to be gained from the use of digital photography over film:
- Immediacy - the ability to preview, evaluate and correct the exposure and/or composition before making the final capture
- No loss of image information as inevitably occurs when scanning film or prints
- No dust or scratches in the print or digital image
- Clean, grain-free high quality images
- Greater latitude than any film can give
- Better colour fidelity between highlights and shadows than film
- Digital archiving on disk for convenient storage
- Can be saved in web and/or print format
- Transparencies can be made from digital files when require

The very best reproduction of a painting as a giclée is produced when the photographer works closely with the printmaker. The photographic image is transferred directly to the workstation where the printmaker can make any adjustments necessary before the print is made. Transparencies can be produced using these digital files if required.
